Insta360 ONE RS Twin Edition – Waterproof 4K 60fps Action Camera & 5.7K 360 Camera with Interchangeable Lenses, Stabilization, 48MP Photo, Active HDR, AI Editing
About this deal
The 360º records everything in 5.5K 30fps, so here it’s mostly about the post-processing and templates, of which there are a few new ones; ‘CineLapse’– a transition-heavy hyperlapse — and the trippy ‘Horizon Levelling’ join dozens more. When out and about, the 360º module is protected by a U-shaped silicon hood when off the camera and by two snap-on lens caps when on the camera, which is good thinking.
It can shoot entirely decent HDR images, but you need to let the Insta360 app actually compile them. Try to dig them straight out of the camera and you’ll just find the separate exposures that are used to make the final picture. Being able to effortlessly pair the 360 Lens capabilities with the 4K Boost lens makes these the only cameras that can offer such a powerful combo. An upgraded One RS Core, featuring a new processor for improved in-camera FlowState stabilisation and up to 50% faster WiFi transfers, as well as an additional mic The overall quality is far better than its older brother One R , but some video with the Boost Lens isn’t as sharp as the GoPro Hero 10 in bright sunshine. Although, we’ll give points for ONE RS’ 6K widescreen filming and HDR option for videos.
iOS users must connect to the camera wirelessly and live stream using mobile phone data. Supported platforms include Facebook, YouTube or via an RTMP URL. Compatible with iOS mobile devices with chips A11 or above and iOS version 10.0 or above , including iPhone SE 2, iPhone 8, iPhone 8P, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone X, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12 mini, iPad Air(2020), iPad Pro and newer iPad models. It’s a touchscreen, of course, and it’s a cinch to swipe between all the main modes and find other options by swiping up and down.
Insta360 has changed the mic layout for the One RS, adding an additional microphone to allow for more sound modes. As well as wind noise reduction, you can choose Stereo or Directional Enhancement. These two will play with how the sound recorded by the two right/left mics in the central module sits in the final audio mix. For traditional action cam fans, the 4K Boost Lens is your go-to wide angle option, for bold action shooting up to 4K60fps. This new version is a complete overhaul of the ONE R 4K Wide Angle Lens, with a larger 1/2” sensor size, plus the following awesome new features: Active HDR The Insta360 One RS can shoot stills, but we wouldn’t recommend buying one for the job. Shooting feels quite slow, with a notable wait between each exposure as the camera processes/saves the files. It’s much like other action cameras in this respect. The quality of the Insta360 ONE RS is pretty good, it achieves good natural colors and nice sharpness in the videos but in comparison with the new Hero 11, it still has a bit to go to be as good in video quality. It’s an odd case of looser processing leading to charming results, something you can only really appreciate when seeing the footage in motion, because when analyzing frames down at pixel level, the GoPro almost always seems superior. This is particularly true of far-away objects like bushes, or that shimmering gravel we already mentioned. The Insta360 is more prone to rendering unrealistic looking patterns in these visual features than the steadfastly consistent GoPro –but the negative part you'll notice in motion is that shimmer.
