About this deal
Loxjie decided to assign filter selection to the function button instead of the more useful to the average user sound modes which are hidden further inside a menu together with other useful settings such as DPLL mode and screen brightness. When it comes to sound via Bluetooth, it sounded even smoother this way, it was softer around the edges, lusher and even calmer than via USB or Optical. It was losing a bit of details, but not a lot of them. It can work pretty well via Bluetooth while casually listening around your house with some powered speakers attached to it, but if we are talking about real Hi-Fi, then you should probably use it only via its USB input, which sounded the best to me. I was slightly let down that it is not supporting AptX-HD and LDAC codect, which are sounding much closer to its wired performance, but again, it’s an entry level device and should be treated as such. The front of the device is also similar since they both have a colored screen that clearly shows the status of the device. Both DACs also have a volume knob that also works for menu navigation, but the one on the SH-8s feels a bit more premium since it’s made of metal.

The soundstage is wide and spacious, with a somewhat modest depth. Instruments are well separated, and while D30 is not the absolute champion of pinpointing every single thing in the soundstage, you’re only going to notice it in comparison with slightly more expensive gear. The more balanced presentation allows Poseidon’s more dynamic character to shine through. This pairing also does well in casting an expansive soundstage while creating accurate images within the soundstage. Plus, it is coupled with a built-in power supply that Loxjie claims to achieve low noise and a rigid aluminum chassis for better electromagnetic shielding.Incorporating a second-generation XMOS USB controller and ESS ES9068AS, the D30 is capable of supporting up to 32BIT/768kHz PCM and DSD512 signal similar to the DX3 Pro+.
