Also, each mushroom illustration is assigned one of the four letters: On the other hand, the homage by the author to the predecessors who recorded their findings with patience, creativity, hard work, and faithfulness to their crafts are inspiring and worth emulating. I did not feel this was particularly comprehensive. I felt like I wanted more contemporary works, or more variety in the works. I read somewhere that the book contains only open source images. I imagine this is true based on the ages of the sources. As this is a collection of others' work and that work is primarily art, it's really not the easiest book to review. That being said, both the things the curator controls and the things they don't are well-done. The selections are great, and the diversity of art styles while still maintaining the theme of scientific botanical drawings were well-chosen. The write-ups before each section were brief yet informative. This book is a collection of, as the title suggests, mushroom botanical art. I found this very interesting and I loved the showcasing of different botanists and artists! I do wish there were some actual info about the mushrooms but again, this was really cool for what it is!
